Setsu Niseko Conferred Design Award at
the 40th IALD International Lighting Design Awards

An accolade universally heralded as the lighting industry’s most prestigious honour

20 September 2023 (Singapore) – Leading luxury developer, SC Global Developments is delighted to announce that its inaugural hotel Setsu Niseko has been conferred an IALD Award of Merit at the 40th IALD International Lighting Design Awards.

The IALD International Lighting Design Awards is the longest-running awards program that celebrates architectural lighting design excellence.  Entries for this prestigious accolade is highly competitive with this year’s award recognising just 27 projects from 15 countries around the world. IALD Awards Chair Yah Li Toh announced the winners at an online broadcast commenting “These exceptional projects are diverse in application and scale, but each one elevates and inspires our professional community.”

SC Global’s inaugural hotel project ‘Setsu Niseko’ is flanked by the incredible mountainscape of Mt. Yotei and Mt. Annupuri and realises the Group’s vision to create the ultimate destination resort, offering an elevated lifestyle experience and contemporary design with a strong sense of place. Collaborating with a team of notable Japanese and Singapore designers, the architecture of Setsu Niseko balances the honest purity of traditional Japanese spaces with contemporary luxuries, whilst optimising the stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

The 2023 IALD award recognises the lighting design of the hotel reception, lobby lounge, and wine bar, designed in collaboration with lighting design firm ‘Nipek’. Setsu Niseko’s striking lobby design incorporates a collection of notable art pieces with two large fireplaces as focal points, creating a warm and inviting space that draws residents together for the perfect après-ski experience.

This notable award is the development’s second accolade this year; in July Setsu Niseko claimed the impressive position of top three finalist in the acclaimed ‘Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2023’, solidifying its stature as a premier destination in Japan’s Beach and Upcountry Hotel category. Setsu Niseko is also one of just seven projects in the world shortlisted for the “Best New Ski Hotel” at ‘The World Ski Awards’ with the results set to be unveiled in November 2023.
